New Section 94 Contribution Plan supports sustainable transport

Transport advocates from Sutherland Shire Environment Centre said today that Sutherland Shire Council's new draft Section 94 Contribution Plan was a positive more towards more sustainable transport in the Sutherland Shire.

"Councillors should be congratulated for their recognition of the need to develop alternatives to private motor vehicle travel in the Sutherland Shire. As fuel costs inevitably continue to rise over the next few years, residents will soon realise that there are real financial benefits to be had from using walking and cycling as alternatives, especially for short trips", said Centre transport spokesperson, Jenni Gormley.

"The new plan focuses on the needs and aspirations of our community for healthier and more active lifestyles. When the facilities outlined in the plan are eventually constructed, the Shire will have an integrated network of walkways and cycleways that will be used by people of all ages for all kinds of journeys (such as school, work, shopping) and recreation."

Sutherland Shire Environment Centre hopes that residents will express their support for the new plan which is on exhibition at Council and Sutherland Library branches until 17 th September.

"Councillors need to know that the community are behind them when they take positive steps such as this", Ms Gormley said.
