Gateway Proposal |
| NPWS are currently developing a proposal to construct a major environmental education facility at the entrance to the Kurnell Peninsula. The proposal is in conjunction with Sutherland Shire Tourism Association and is centred on a former sandmining site which is now a constructed wetland. The facility will allow visitors to enjoy a wetland experience without disturbing the conservation values of the Nature Reserve. |

Greater Protection for Littoral Rainforest

| The NSW Scientific Committee has now made a FINAL Determination to list the Sutherland Shire Littoral Rainforest as an Endangered Ecological Community. Lend Lease help Towra Lagoon Project

| Employees from the Lend Lease corporation have once again assisted with construction of the Great Wall of Towra by contributing their Annual Community day to the project. In November 1997, about 35 attended the site and more have returned in September 1998. Click here to find out more. |

Plan of Management Review and Erosion Reports
In 1997 the Federal Government allocated $100,000 from the Natural Heritage Trust to facilitate a review of the Plan of Management for Towra and for investigation of options to mitigate erosion at Towra Point. The investigations are being overseen be a steering committee which includes NPWS, Environment Australia, Sutherland Shire Council, Botany Bay Planning and Protection Council (Bernie Clarke), Coast and Wetland Society, National Parks Association, Friends of Towra, NSW Fisheries, Waterways Authority and the Office of Marine Administration. A draft Plan is due out early in 1999. |
